5. Receive rebate cheques for your completed eligible upgrades, along with a $600 rebate for your energy assessments.

Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant the same as Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) Program?

Starting from January 4, 2023, the Canada Greener Homes Grant is now known as Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) and is being collaboratively delivered by Natural Resources Canada and Enbridge Gas throughout Ontario and Canada-Wide. The newly introduced rebate program provides up-to-date and considerably increased rebates for numerous home efficiency upgrades, such as space and water heating, weatherproofing, home insulation and more!

Homeowners who want to apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant will now apply through the HER+ program and can potentially be considered for both initiatives. The collaborative delivery of this initiative through the Home Energy Efficiency Plus Program allows qualifying Ontario homeowners to reap the benefits of both programs while only needing to submit one application. Ontario homeowners who submitted their applications for the Canada Greener Homes Grant before January 4, 2023, are advised to continue managing their applications via the CGHG portal.

Homes that Qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus Program (HER+)

To be eligible for the HER+ program, Ontario residents must meet a certain set of qualifications. Home’s that qualify for the HER+ program include:

• Enbridge Gas Customers
  A home that uses Enbridge Gas for heating and is the owner's primary residence.
• Enbridge Gas Customers with Tenants Residing in their Landlord-Owned Property
  Homes that use Enbridge Gas for heating but are not the primary residence of the owner and instead occupied with tenants.
• Non-Enbridge Gas Customers
  Homeowners who don't use Enbridge Gas for heating are eligible for rebates.
• Off-grid Communities
  Off-grid communities with a minimum of 10 dwellings that have been settled permanently or long-term (at least five years) and are not currently connected to the North American electrical grid or piped natural gas network.
• Select Multi-Residential Buildings
  Owners of certain qualifying low-rise and mixed-use properties can receive rebates. Visit the Enbridge Gas website for additional information.

The following homes do not qualify for the HER+ program:

• Homes constructed within the last 6 months.
• Rental units not space-heated by Enbridge Gas, where the owner is not the primary resident of the property.
• Mixed use buildings with less than 50% residential living space.
• Multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) exceeding 3 storeys or 600 m2.
• Homes that have already reached the maximum incentive amount ($10,000 for Enbridge space-heated customers and $5,000 for non-Enbridge customers) through the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) or Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG) programs.
• Homes that have already initiated upgrades before the pre-retrofit energy assessment is conducted.
